1949 – 2023

A note from long-time French Creek collaborator, Baron Ferguson

Dear Friends of Rob Ferguson and of French Creek Software,

With a heavy heart, I am very saddened to share that my father, Robert J. Ferguson, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, due to complications from a planned surgical procedure. My mother Janet, my sister Alexis, my brother Robert, and I, his youngest, were all with him as he peacefully passed away.

Since his water treatment journey began at Nalco in 1974, under his dear friend and mentor Arthur J. Freedman, Rob had a passion for solving water treatment issues. His passion for combining technology and physical chemistry to solve new water treatment challenges would lead him to co-founding French Creek Software with his wife Janet in 1989.

French Creek was the first of its kind, putting powerful predictive modeling tools in an accessible application for professional water treaters of all sizes. Today, his Visual Chemistry software programs are used daily by thousands upon thousands of water treatment professionals globally.

Our family knows that this news comes as a massive shock. He was not only a thought leader in the water community, but a warm and loving friend, who lit up many conference halls and technical discussions. He had a rare mix of (intimidating) intelligence, impish humor, and an overall captivating presence, for which you couldn’t help but smile when you were with him.

Although there is no replacing Dad, his legacy will live on in his countless technical papers and suite of software. As Dad intended, his legacy will continue and the French Creek Software team will continue to license its world renowned software and provide dedicated support for its global user base and can be reached at frenchcreeksoftware.com/contact.
